A Self-Powered Multifunctional Lawnmower

About A Self-Powered Multifunctional Lawnmower

In Society 5.0, AI can be propelled through smart inventions for a human-centered society. For this vision, autonomous robots can assist people in executing daily tasks such as mopping, vacuuming, and mowing.

However, robotic lawnmowers are:

·        uncommon

·        powered non-renewably

·        not cost-efficient (1500-3500 USD)

·        limited to a single function (i.e., mowing)

The preceding issues are resolved through a self-powered multifunctional lawnmower. It is an autonomous mower that also works as a floor polisher when its blade is substituted with a polishing pad. Using ultrasonic and infrared sensors, it comes with boundary detection, obstacle avoidance, and lift-sensing (for safety) capabilities. It can also be remote-controlled using a smartphone. It is a green invention that saves energy through solar power.

Mowing is tiring and dangerous for the elderly and disabled. This invention helps remove unsafe and tiresome aspects through its autonomous feature. It helps free up users for more meaningful work and improves their quality of life. Its multifunctionality is value-added because single-function devices eventually become obsolete with time whereas multifunctional ones retain some value.

In the future, it can be used in large areas like golf courses and malls. Such a prospect saves businesses’ cost, time, and manpower, especially during emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic where these activities could still remain operational with fewer physical interactions.

Considering break-even analysis, costs and profits, the invention’s price is around 150-250 USD, which is about 10 times cheaper than competitors. A patent has been filed (PI2020005912) for future commercial transitions.
