
From our findings, we have found four of our local plants namely, piper betle, pinang palm, Chinese keys and cat’s whiskers possessed potent antioxidant and antiaging activities in normal human skin fibroblast. Together with this, their respectives compounds, namely eugenol, ellagic acid, quercetin and galangin showed protective effect against the harmful effects of UVB radiation and intrinsic aging in normal human skin fibroblast. These compounds have high phenolic and flavonoid which are used as an indicator for determining antioxidant and antiaging activities. These biocompounds are also highly capable of reducing the generation of intracellular ROS.Therefore, our key findings from the research are, firstly the plant extracts and their respectives compounds possess potent radical scavenging activities. Secondly, they also have high anti-aging properties such as anti elastase, anti collagenase and anti-hyaluronidase. They are also potent in reducing the intracellular ROS. These findings may lead to a potential development of safe, effective and affordable skin antiaging products.
